Events & Play Wednesday - Upcoming Conventions, Gamedays. and Misc Gaming, November & Onward

The winter in the northern Midwest USA, combined with the holiday season, can often mean a slowing down of convention and gameday opportunities but the spigot isn't off altogether.  There are any number of weekend opportunities to game prior to our Thanksgiving weekend as well as some local gaming that I plan to enjoy in the beautiful Lake Geneva region.

The third Saturday and Sunday of November, and indeed almost every month, includes the Burlington Gameday on Saturday, November 15th which sets up events through the Burlington UCC Game Day group on Facebook here and A Gathering of Gamers on Sunday, October 16th, set up by the South Lakes Area Gamers here.  The former is in Burlington, WI at the Plymouth UCC space and is free taking place from approximately 11 am to 5 pm.  The latter takes place at the Pizza Ranch in Elkhorn, WI, and requires a $12 fee for the all you can eat pizza and fried chicken buffet (salad bar, soft-serve ice cream machine, etc.) plus unlimited soft drinks and coffee from 11 am to 8 pm.

Be sure to make your plans for November 20th, the "Thor'd Thors'day" of November, since it is the monthly Game Like a Viking Day!  It's a chance, no matter where you are, to break out your Viking-themed tabletop games and have at it.  See more of this ongoing monthly day of fun on the Facebook page here.

There's some gaming to be had at Rhode Island Comic Con which begins November 1st at 10 am and runs through November 2 until 5:00 pm at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island 02903.  Also in November, GameHole Con in Madison, WI, runs for three days November 7th through 9th.  Also, November 7-9 at the Killington Grand Resort, Canage on the Mountain present A Fist Full of Carnage.  TsunamiCon 2014, happening November 7th-9th, has hit their Kickstarter goal (and has a few days left to get on board here) and takes place at the Hotel at Old Town in Wichita, KS.  Be sure to check out U-Con in Ann Arbor, MI, November 14th, 15th, and 16th at the Marriott.  Later, the HavenCon Games Day is being held at the Urbana Volunteer Fire Department Banquet Hall  in Frederick, MD, Saturday, November 15, from 10 am to 10 pm.

The Gaming Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania has monthly gamedays but their annual GASPCon meant to happen in November is still ironing out details.  Check out their site for gamedays information and to keep informed for GASPCon here.

Some of this information is gleaned from the excellent lists (which you can check for even more event information!) on upcomingcons.com/gaming-conventionsGameConventionCentral.comHMGS (the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society), and  as well as many, many gamers on Facebook and Google Plus, to whom I am grateful for the help in this compilation.  Thanks so much and have a great game!

Over on OffBeatBride.com, they are teaching us "How to make your own Dungeons & Dragons chocolate dice mold."  Learn more here.

Meanwhile, some lazy fella named Jesse Herzog came up with the Suitsy, a one-piece suits and shirt combo similar to a child's onesie.  Read more here.

Finally, it appears man can run as fast as an ostrich and maybe even over 25 mph with the newly-invented Bionic Boots.  See more here.

Saturday Crowdfunding Roundup - Mythos Arcanum, Gaming Paper Erasable, & Harwood's Wargaming Miniatures

Joe Aragon's Mythos Arcanum Kickstarter has just a few days left to fund and is edging up toward doing just that.  Check out his nifty RPG project here.

Eric Bauer's Gaming Paper Erasable project is nearly funded with over a month left to do so.  Very cool stuff made by these folks and I'll be keeping an eye on this as it comes to be.  See more here.

Harwood Hobbies: Next Wave of Wargaming Miniatures project on Kickstarter has met it's initial funding goal and is looking to hit some stretch goals over the next two weeks here.

Keeping an eye on those Kickstarter & IndieGoGo
projects plus other crowdfunding efforts.

The Friday Grab Bag - Happy B-Day to Me and You!

Today I turn another year older and I will be sure to roll some dice, and not just in a metaphoric way.  Some gaming is definitely in the offing!

Also, as I do every year, I am running a sale on all CMG offerings on my B-Day through Halloween to mark what I like to call "Marktoberfest!" which is an eight day celebration of gaming.

I will game and work on upcoming games as much as I can though this eight day festival.  I hope you can you can do likewise!

If you'd like to further help me year round, please click through to this blog often and click away through the advertisers from time to time, as it all helps to keep the lights on for me.  Thanks!

I totally stole this meme from someone who stole it from someone else online!

Throwback Thursday - Not So Desperately Seeking Chess Pieces

I'm in no great hurry, and haven't played chess in years in any serious way, though I sometimes get drawn into the odd game once in a great while.  Nevertheless, I was looking at an empty marble chess board I picked up some time back at an estate sale and thinking it could use some pieces some time this year or next.  I like the idea of a Medieval or Dark Ages theme, but not fantastical, though Arthurian would be fine.  They need not be marble and three inches for the king is fine enough as it isn't a huge board.  I will keep it under one hundred dollars, for sure, and plan to find the best deal I can before I move on anything.  Any ideas?  I've been checking on eBay a little and found one site with some decent stuff here but that's just to get ideas and not a place where I am likely to purchase.

Events & Play Wednesday - Lake Geneva Area Gaming, Late September through Late October

Good times were had by all gaming through this last month!  The Gaming Hoopla kicks off this blog post followed swiftly by a Lake Geneva Gameday, then the Northeast Wisconsin Gameapalooza, and right on through the third weekend which included Game Like a Viking Day, the Burlington Gameday, and the excellent Pizza Ranch Gathering.  Sprinkle in a pile of Tuesday and Friday Taco Bell and Culver's midday gaming lunches, and it's hard to imagine how anyone could do much more.  I've added some photos to Facebook here and Google Plus here but below are some highlights.
